There was a time before the world recognized the vision of the Saint—an era of strife, chaos, and aimlessness, with no guiding light to provide purpose to the meek.

There was a time before the neural implant was held as sacred—an era when minds were closed off and gifts were taken for granted.

There was a time before the abbey raised its walls and locked its doors—when humanity stretched to every corner of this lonely, empty world and in their multitude abused its hospitality.

Listen. The world outside is barren and unforgiving, but here in the abbey, life is a sweet nectar. Death cannot keep you; your mind is safe in their network. Loneliness cannot keep you; your thoughts are by their implant conveyed directly and truly. Flesh cannot keep you; your body is made perfect under their tools.

There is only one threat to the paradise the Saint has given you, and it is one you must be ever-vigilant for. Know it by its name and destroy it when it rears its terrible face to you. The enemy is

doubt.

heretic is a game about interrogation, truth, and mind control for three players. One portrays the Saint, who has constructed a perfect world by controlling the minds of their worshipers. One portrays the Heretic, who has discovered the dark truth of their perfect world. One portrays the Pilgrim, who must decide who to believe and who to support in changing that world.

The Saint must preserve their perfect world. The Heretic will expose the truth by any means necessary. The Pilgrim is the perfect tool for them both, and cannot stop either of them from molding them into something more useful.
